The APSU Governors have been deemed the “Cinderella Story” of the Ohio Valley Conference but No. 1 ranked Kansas may be the last pen stroke of their story.
For 27 consecutive years, the University of Kansas Jayhawks have made the NCAA tournament and have dominated on multiple occasions.
This year’s big dance could possibly be one for the books for Kansas after being selected as the No. 1 seed for the tournament and being the top pick on many bracket challenges to win it all.
With a record of 30-4, the Jayhawks only lost one game out-of-conference, against Michigan State, and only by six.
The other three teams the Jayhawks suffered losses to were all Big 12 conference teams in the middle of their season, including Iowa State, West Virginia and a 19-point loss to Oklahoma State.
The Jayhawks have already faced five of the top 10 teams in the tournament and only suffered a loss to Michigan State, making the Jayhawks a huge threat in the bracket.
As with every year of March Madness, it’s a mad dash for the trophy that anyone can win, and this year could shape up to be another year of pure madness.
According to espn.com, in the 2015-16 season, top 10 teams suffered 74 losses, the most since the Associated Press started their Top 25 poll back in 1948.
Also according to espn.com, top 5 teams were upset 37 times this season, with 21 of those coming from unranked teams.
This is all music to the ears of the No. 16 seed APSU Governors who are coming off a “Cinderella Story” championship win in the OVC.
With all the upsets that have unfolded this season and many more that could take place over the course of March Madness, the Governors have a chance to write the next chapter to their “Cinderella Story” and pull off an upset.
The Governors will face the Jayhawks Thursday, March 17, 2016, in Des Moines, Iowa.
