Austin Peay State University secured a huge win against the second-ranked in the Atlantic Sun Conference, Lipscomb University. The Governors dominated the Bison in the second half to win 87-76 in front of a crowd of over 3,000 at F&M Bank Arena. This win keeps the Govs at the top of the ASUN and also marks the first Governor win in this matchup since 2015.
The Governors came out of the locker room hot looking for revenge, starting the game on a 7–0 run. However, the Bison came back and ended the first half up 38-35.
The Governors came back out of the half with the same fire they started the game with and didn’t let the Bison trample it. The Govs went on multiple runs in the second half, including a 17-2 run that forced the Bison into a four-plus-minute scoring drought.
Governors of the Game
- Collin Parker was the go-to man again this game, dropping 30 in back-to-back games. Parker also got close to another double-double after grabbing nine rebounds while picking up six assists and two steals.
- Anton Brookshire couldn’t miss from the three-point line in the second half, and when he did, he came up with a steal and a fast-break layup. To end the night, Brookshire had 25 points, three assists, three steals, and a rebound.
Bison of the Game
- Grant Asman was the leading scorer for the Bison on the night with 19 points. Asman also had five rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
- Mateo Esmeraldo put up 15 points, four assists, and a steal. Esmeraldo tied with Asman for the most minutes for the Bison with 30.
The Governors now turn all their attention toward the University of North Alabama this Saturday, Feb. 7, with a tipoff time of 4 p.m.
