Austin Peay State University swept the University of Bellarmine in a weekend series that consisted of a doubleheader on April 17 and a regular game on April 19 at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.
The Governors outscored the Knights 31-13 throughout all three games. The biggest win was the first game of the series, where the Governors won 16-6 in seven innings. The Governors were able to put up so many runs thanks to home runs by Cole Johnson, Ty Wisdom and Ray Velazquez.
In the second game, Houston Herbert hit a two-run homer that was followed by another home run by Paris Pridgen. Zion Taylor then hit his eighth home run of the season after multiple scoreless innings from both teams.
With this series sweep, the Governors are now in a three-way tie for second place in the Atlantic Sun Conference Gold Division. The Governors are tied with the University of Central Arkansas and Lipscomb University. All three schools have a 10-8 ASUN record as of now, while the University of North Alabama is sitting at the top with an 11-7 record.
The Governors are now gearing up for a midweek showdown against Western Kentucky University on April 22. The game will be played at Nick Denes Field in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Hilltoppers have a short trip to make to Richmond, Kentucky, to take on Eastern Kentucky University, their first ASUN opponent, before facing the Governors the following day. Overall, the Hilltoppers are 20-20 with a 7-11 Conference USA record.
