The Govs endured their third overtime game of the season to reach their third win on the year. The 79-74 victory was just the first in overtime after posting a 0-2 record in the games preceding.
APSU was led by Zach Glotta and Chris Porter-Bunton in the victory. Glotta finished with 17 points and five assists, while Porter-Bunton finished the game with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Terry Taylor finished with 13 points and four assists.
The Govs were assisted by 19 Troy turnovers, and a 39 percent shooting night.
The slow starts for the Govs continued as they were outscored in the first half 31-24. The teams combined for 15 turnovers and just 31 percent shooting in the first half.
The Govs battled back from their slow start in the second half where they posted 43 points. The half started with a 17-7 run by APSU. Taylor scored a three-pointer to give the Govs the lead.
After the three, Troy answered and the lead changes ensued between the two teams. Porter-Bunton eventually took over after the team trailed by three points with less than two minutes left in the game.
The Govs took a five-point lead after two made shots and two free throws from Porter-Bunton. Troy rallied back to send the game to overtime. APSU, in familiar territory with overtime, did not let off the gas. 12 overtime points were enough to push the Govs past Troy.
Glotta hit a deep three-pointer with 30 seconds left to help the Govs seal their third victory on the season.
Troy falls to 3-4 while APSU improves to 3-4. The next road test for the Govs will be against Alabama A&M on Saturday, Dec. 1.
