APSU (4-4, 2-3 Ohio Valley Conference) quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall threw for 279 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-10 homecoming blowout.
The consistency of the Govs ability to score points on offense was accompanied by one of the defenses best performances of the season. The Govs allowed only 298 yards on defense while accounting for a balanced 566 yards on offense with 279 yards passing 287 yards passing.
Along with Oatsvall’s impressive passing numbers, the running game was in full effect. Kentel Williams rushed for 97 yards on 16 attempts. Tre Nation accounted for 74 yards and Prince Momodu ran for 55 yards and a score.
The first quarter involved the least amount of scoring. Aside from a 55-yard touchdown pass from Oatsvall to DJ Montgomery and a missed extra-point, the two rivals spent most of the quarter feeling each other out.
Tennessee Tech cut into the APSU lead with a field goal made early in the second quarter to end a 17-play drive.
The Govs marched back down to answer on the ensuing drive. The Oatsvall-Montgomery connection continued on a 4-yard touchdown reception to end an 11-play drive.
With 51 seconds left in the first half, APSU extended their lead once again as Prince Momodu scored on an 8-yard run.
The fireworks continued for APSU in the third quarter, accounting for 21 points. The defense gave up the lone touchdown of the game in the third.
Baniko Harley caught an Oatsvall pass short and turned a minimal gain into a 66-yard touchdown reception. Just three minutes later Oatsvall found Montgomery for the duo’s third touchdown connection of the game on a long 37-yard touchdown.
Tennessee Tech finally put six on the board on a 6-play, 64-yard drive to narrow the Govs lead to 34-10.
The last score for either team came in the closing minutes of the third quarter. Oatsvall tied the school record for touchdown passes in a game as Harley hauled in an eight-yard score.
The Govs improved to an even record overall, and just shy of .500 in conference play with the win.
The Govs improve to 2-1 against fellow Tennessee teams in the race for a second consecutive Sgt. York Trophy.
The Govs will host Eastern Kentucky Saturday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. in Fortera Stadium.
