APSU Volleyball topped off a strong week of action with two more wins in the Ohio Valley Conference.
To start off the week, APSU hosted Mu**ay State (7-9, 1-3 OVC) om Tuesday, Sept 25 in the first match of the 2018-19 Heritage Bank Battle of the Border.
The Govs (14-2, 4-0 OVC) set a season best of 14 blocks with Kristen Stucker and Kaylee Taff managing six blocks a piece.
With an outstanding effort from the back-row defense, the Govs put on 74 digs. Ginny Gerig came out with 19 digs in the match.
Murray State’s offense struggled to keep up with the Govs. Senior Logan Carger had a season best 13-outing kills and four blocks.
In the end, Governors took the win in three sets to one, claiming the opening contest in the series..
Alongside APSU’s victory over the Racers, the Govs took on Morehead State (12-5, 3-1) this past Saturday, Sept. 29.
APSU dominated the first two sets in the clash of the two OVC undefeated Titans with Brooke Moore leading the Govs offensively.
Moore notched 16 kills in the contest.
Entering to the third set, APSU had a tougher go with Morehead State holding a five-point lead.
However, the Govs rallied back with a two-point 23-21 lead in the final stretch.
APSU posted a striking 48 kills in the three-set sweep along with a .229 team attack percentage.
Cecily Gable contributed 12 digs while Stucker and freshman Jaymeson Kinley each had 11 digs.
The two-game performance awarded Stucker her 18th career OVC Setter of the Week Award, finishing with 49 assists, 10 digs, and four kills.
The Govs will be looking to start their OVC campaign at 5-0 for the second straight year.
APSU will continue their four-match homestand against Eastern Illinois Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Dunn Center.
One day later APSU will host Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (4-12, 3-1 OVC) from the Dunn Center.
Following that, the defending OVC Champions will travel to winless Belmont (0-16, 0-4) and the second place Tigers of Tennessee State (6-8, 4-0).
Twelve conference games remain on the schedule for APSU as well as an Oct. 16 clash with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (12-6) of the Conference USA.
