NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — The Storm Prediction Center says freezing rain could accumulate at rates of up to one-tenth of an inch per hour in a corridor from northeastern Arkansas to southwestern Indiana for a time Tuesday afternoon.
An ice storm warning is already in effect for central and northern Arkansas, and forecasters say that by mid-afternoon icing could occur in a 75- to 100-mile-wide corridor that includes the Missouri Bootheel, western Kentucky and Tennessee and far southern Illinois.
Temperatures in the area will be just below freezing.
The Oklahoma-based Storm Prediction Center says that, in some parts of the region, precipitation could also include a mix of snow and-or sleet, especially in the lower Ohio Valley.
