APSU men’s and women’s basketball shared a perfect record on the week of Feb. 9.
The Governors swept rival Mu**ay State in the First Financial Battle of the Border and followed up their previous performance against Eastern Kentucky in the Dunn Center.
The men’s team now boasts the top spot in the Ohio Valley Conference while the women have slowly begun to climb the rankings just before the conference tournament in early March.
The Govs face two familiar opponents on the road this week, in SIU-Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois. Terry Taylor and company soundly defeated the Cougars by 24 points on Jan. 30 in Clarksville but were taken to the wire against the Panthers the following game.
As for David Midlick’s group, the team heads into First Community Arena with much-needed momentum, winning the past two OVC contests and three of the last four. The Governors defeated SIUE in their last meeting by 13 but were no match for the Panthers on Feb. 1.
With four conference games remaining, both men’s and women’s teams will need momentum heading into the tournament. The Governors will need to prove themselves as road-warriors in this final stretch, as three of their final four games will be played away from the Dunn.
