APSU Men’s tennis earned their first conference win of the season with a 5-2 performance over Eastern Illinois for Senior Day on Saturday, April 7.
The Govs got the ball rolling early on by taking the doubles point. The duo of Almantas Ozelis and Aleh Drobysh topped the Pantheer’s pair of Gage Kingsmith and Jared Woodson 6-3.
The second battle in the duo dues featured APSU’s Chad Woodham and Evan Bottorff best EIU’s Freddie O’Brien and Trent Reiman 6-4.
EIU topped the Govs with the team of Grant Reiman and Logan Charbonneau besting Jacob Lorino and Christian Edison 6-3 in the duo’s final match.
The Govs controlled the singles matches with a 4-2 overall outing.
Edison won the opening set of singles play 6-1 and 6-4 over Grant Reiman.
Timo Kiesslich put the Govs ahead 2-0 in singles action by besting Kingsmith 7-5 and 6-0.
Drobysh continued the success for APSU when he beat Charbonneau 6-3 and 6-3.
Ozelis fell in the fourth sets 6-3, 4-6 and 10-8 to O’Brien.
Lorino preserved the win for the Govs, topping Trent Reiman 6-1 and 6-1.
The day ended with Woodson beating Chad Woodham 6-4, 1-6 and 10-7 in three sets. However, the Govs had already earned the win.
The Govs final regular season comes as a road trip to Eastern Kentucky on Friday, April 13.
