The Lady Govs’ volleyball team traveled to Richmond, Kentucky for their match against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016. According to letsgopeay.com, the Lady Govs seized a four set win (25-11, 16-25, 25-19, 25-20).
Because of six errors committed by EKU in the first set, APSU easily jumped out to a 10-2 lead. The Lady Govs sustained the lead and went on to score 8 of the last 10 points of the frame.
In the second set, EKU played much cleaner than they did in the first set, while APSU had 13 errors to give EKU the lead. When EKU got to set point, the Lady Govs fought through three attempts to end the set, but the set was won by EKU on a service error by the Lady Govs.
APSU took early leads in both the third and fourth sets with a couple of 7-3 runs. In the third set, the Lady Govs held EKU back throughout the whole set. However, in the fourth EKU battled late, scoring 9 of 7 points to get within one point of the Lady Govs (21-20). APSU’s Cecily Gable had two kills to lead APSU to a win.
The Lady Govs played very well defensively in this match. Ashley Slay posted her 200th block against EKU, and Sammie Ebright posted her season high with 12 digs in this match.
The Lady Govs are set to play Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Illinois on Friday, Oct. 7.
