The Lady Govs received consistent play from several players in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, but couldn’t make a charge up the leaderboard.
On Day 2 of the tournament, Tuesday, APSU shot an identical score of 311 from the previous round, finishing in fourth place with a two-day score of 622. Belmont (596) won the team competition with an impressive 295 second round, while Murray State (603) and Tennessee Tech (605) put themselves just above APSU.
Sophomore Amber Bosworth had a rough stretch of holes on Tuesday, but with her low round of 73 on Day 1, she managed to finish in a tie for ninth.
“Amber had a great tournament,” head coach Sara Robson said. “She struggled for about six holes in a row today and then got it back. She was playing well, then kind of lost focus for a bit and it took her a while to grind it out.”
A trio of Lady Govs — Jessica Cathey, Morgan Kaufman, and Meghan Mueller — each shot 77 on Tuesday, while Anna Michelle Moore had an 83.
Robson also saw many improvements from her individual players, with two sophomores slotting themselves inside the top 25. Kelsey Schutt tied for 16th (77-79), while Morgan Gardner improved by nine shots to finish tied for 21st, leading the Lady Govs with a 74 on the final day. Meanwhile, Anna Pope shot an 83, while Sarah Beth Strubble totaled an 84.
“These kids are really competitive,” Robson said. “Every time they tee it up, they’re teeing it up for a spot on the team. Morgan played phenomenal; I am so proud of her. She doesn’t hit it a long way, but she hits it straight and that’s what you had to do today. Kelsey had another solid round and was consistent this tournament, which is what I’ve been needing from her.”
The Lady Govs travel to Murfreesboro for the next tournament, taking part in the Blue Raider Invitational on Monday, Oct. 20 and Tuesday, Oct. 21.
