The Lady Govs suffered a sweep at the hands of OVC rival Eastern Illinois University, losing all three games this weekend at home.
In game one of a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16, APSU pitcher Morgan Brewer was plagued with illegal pitch calls and EIU took advantage by scoring three of their runs as a result.
On the other side, EIU starting pitcher Hanna Mennenga fared much better, striking out 16 batters while allowing only three hits.
The Lady Govs scored their only runs on a two-run home run by third baseman Kayla Davidson in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Panthers defeated the Lady Govs 6-2.
In the second game, the Lady Panthers scored early and often as EIU defeated the Lady Govs 7-1.
Davidson provided all the offense for the Lady Govs once again on an RBI single in the fourth inning.
EIU starting pitcher Stephanie Maday struck out seven Lady Govs while allowing only three hits.
In the final game of the series on Sunday, March 17, Lauren de Castro was on the mound for the Lady Govs and threw a couple of costly wild pitches, which allowed runners to score.
De Castro pitched six and one third innings, but the Lady Govs managed only two hits off EIU’s starting pitcher, Hanna Mennenga, as EIU completed the sweep, defeating the Lady Govs 6-0.
APSU is now 9-10 overall and 0-3 in the OVC.
