APSU softball split the Heritage Battle of the Border game against the Mu**ay State Racers (4-2, 2-4).
In the first game, the Govs took advantage of two errors Mu**ay State made in order to score a pair of unearned runs in the second inning, including one coming in on an RBI single by Natalie Schilling, which leads to a 2-0 lead.
Mu**ay State didn’t let the Govs slide to quickly, creating a run in the third to cut the head in half (2-1).
Senior Danielle Liermann managed to get the run back at the bottom of the inning earning her 14th home run of the season.
With the outstanding performance from Liermann, APSU were at a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Mu**ay scored their final run of the game in the top of fifth and remained consistent throughout the rest of the game.
Morgan Rackel closed out the game by striking out nine of the final 10 batters she faced to seal away the 4-2 victory for APSU.
Carrying a victory into the second game, the Govs came out energetic being consistent with the same performance in the first game.
The Govs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Liermann.
However, Mu**ay State scored the next three runs, with two coming in the top of the third inning and the other run coming in the top of fifth.
APSU got within one run, 3-2, on an RBI single by Rackel in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Govs then threaten to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
The first two hitters on the base came out with no outs, but Mu**ay State would get the final six APSU hitters in order to end the game.
Ending the game with a 4-2 final score.
After the weekend, the Govs fell to fifth in the league standings before heading Cookeville, Tennessee, for a doubleheader with Tennessee Tech.
