APSU has acquired its own little slice of fashion; Southern Bliss Boutique opened its doors on Saturday, March 1. On the edge of campus, behind the Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Southern Bliss is in a remodeled house with a porch that begs to be sat on with a glass of lemonade. Inside, racks, tables and shelves line the walls with every new trend you can imagine, which means the store is basically chevron city.
“Southern Bliss has a huge variety of clothing, jewelry and other accessories like belts, scarves and headbands,” said sophomore Kaylon Jarrett, an employee of the store. “The majority of our sizes are small to large but we also carry plus sizes and maternity. We get new shipments in every week, so there is always something new to set your eyes on.”
While Jarrett is right about the huge variety, sizes are a bit of problem. Curvy girls be warned: The smalls are actually extra smalls, and the larges are actually mediums. If you aren’t a size zero, you’ll be confined to the “plus size” section.
Sophomore Shelby Fultz has yet to visit Southern Bliss but said, “I hope they’ll have things that are hard to find at the typical store in the mall, like unique accessories and clothes, along with good gifts for holidays.”
Her wish will be granted. Southern Bliss is definitely a unique store. Buy something from there, and I guarantee you’ll hear, “That’s so cute!” throughout the day.
However, the skinny on Southern Bliss is exactly that: skinny. TAS
