The Govs were on the road facing SIU-Edwardsville Cougars in an Ohio Valley Conference match-up on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The Govs were coming off a victory against Eastern Illinois and they were looking to extend that win streak to two. The Govs came out hot jumping out to an early 12-4 lead. That was just the beginning for the Govs, they got an early lead and did not let up, by the 10 minute mark in the first half they were up 28-9 on the Cougars.
Everything was clicking in the right way for the Govs, just about every shot they attempted was going in. They forced turnovers and they dominated the offensive and defensive boards. The Govs biggest lead in the first half was 21, but the Cougars stopped the bleeding enough to get it down to 16 and went into halftime trailing 40-24.
The second half only got better for the Govs, they boosted their lead up to 23 early and they showed no signs of stopping the full force attack on the Cougars. For most of the second half the cougars could not chip away at the Governor lead because of the play of the two Edwardsville natives Will Triggs and Anthony Campbell.
Late in the game the Cougars started to make a comeback cutting the lead down to 12, but their comeback was a little too late as the Govs hold them off to get their second victory in a row and their third OVC play by a score of 83-71.
