In a tightly contested matchup, Austin Peay fell short against the Jacksonville Dolphins, 66-63, in the ASUN Tournament at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena on March 9. The loss closed one chapter of the Governors’ season.
Austin Peay played a strong defensive game, leading in blocks and steals while holding the Dolphins to 2-of-15 shooting from three-point range. However, the Governors struggled to stay out of foul trouble, committing 22 fouls that allowed Jacksonville to capitalize at the free-throw line.
Jacksonville’s transition defense also limited Austin Peay’s offensive efficiency, as the Govs shot 26-of-63 from the field. As a result, Austin Peay was unable to establish a consistent lead and was forced to play from behind for much of the game, committing 13 turnovers and costly mental mistakes that contributed to their exit from the tournament.
Looking ahead, Austin Peay was selected for the Women’s National Invitation Tournament for the first time in program history and will look to continue its historic season. The Governors will face UT Rio Grande Valley at F&M Bank Arena on March 19 at 6 p.m.
