Work began to replace the steam lines between the Honors Common and Memorial Health this Monday. The project will take approximately three weeks (weather permitting).
The area around the steam manhole in the MUC Plaza was blocked off Sunday afternoon, Sept. 29, in preparation for the steam shutdown on Monday.
The area was then blocked until mid-afternoon Monday. Steam was turned off to the buildings early Monday morning, and temperatures were cooler during the duration of the project.
The APSU community can expect to see certain sidewalks and areas blocked off during parts of the duration of this project.
Digging will begin at the corner of the Honors Common progressing towards the Red Barn. That sidewalk and the area around the project site will be blocked off until the project reaches the area between Honors Common and Memorial Health.
At that point, be aware that the area and entrances to the Red Barn and Memorial Health will be blocked off.
At a later time, an alternate route through ROTC will be posted, giving access to classrooms, offices, the Red Barn and dance studio.
This will not affect the Drane Street side of Memorial Health and the main entrance to the Honors Common as those will remain open.
Signs will be posted for emergency exits for the Red Barn and Memorial Health. Exits from the Red Barn and Memorial Health will be blocked off and posted as “no exit.”
Noise and vibration will occur during the digging and sidewalk removal phase of the project.
