Christy Walker, editorial cartoonist for The All State, named a finalist for 2012 Pacemaker, college media’s top prize.
Christy Walker, editorial cartoonist for The All State, has been named a finalist for a 2012 individual Pacemaker award, the nation’s top award given to collegiate journalists.
Walker is one of five finalists in the individual category for editorial cartooning. Walker was nominated for a depiction of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan holding religious items.
Walker is the first student staff member of The All State to be nominated for a Pacemaker, regarded as the top award in collegiate journalism, print or broadcast.
“I am unbelievably proud that my cartooning has not only garnered the All State and APSU local recognition, but it has now put it out there on a national level. It is a great feeling to know that I’m contributing to the university by doing that which I love the most in the world — drawing,” Walker said.
Individual and overall Pacemaker awards are presented each fall at the national Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Association convention. The 2012 Pacemakers will be presented in late October in Chicago.
