Austin Peay State University’s women’s basketball team dropped its final home game of the season Wednesday, Feb. 25, falling 67-54 to Eastern Kentucky in Atlantic Sun Conference action at F&M Bank Arena after a tough fourth-quarter stretch.
The Govs (15-12, 7-10 ASUN) kept the game competitive through three quarters, matching the Colonels basket-for-basket and heading into the final frame within reach. Austin Peay held an early lead and entered halftime tied at 34 before Eastern Kentucky (23-7, 14-3 ASUN) created separation late.
The difference came in the fourth quarter, where the Colonels outscored the Govs 17-7 and used a 15-2 run to pull away. Austin Peay struggled to regain momentum during that stretch, allowing Eastern Kentucky to close out the regular-season home finale with the 67-54 win.
Anovia Sheals led the way for the Govs with 20 points and seven rebounds, continuing to be a steady presence on both ends of the floor. Mya Williams provided a spark from beyond the arc, going 3-for-4 from three-point range and finishing with 11 points. Jim’Miyah Branton added 12 points and three assists, while Kyra Perkins anchored the defense with four blocks.
Austin Peay now turns its focus to the road, traveling to Lipscomb for a 6 p.m. matchup Friday, Feb. 27.
