On March 7, the Austin Peay women’s basketball team took on the Stetson Hatters at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. Austin Peay’s historical run in the ASUN tournament continues with Austin Peay besting Stetson 68-52. This win marks the first time Austin Peay has advanced to the ASUN Tournament championship game since joining the ASUN Conference in 2022.
Austin Peay completely outclassed the Stetson Hatters on both ends of the floor, forcing 15 turnovers, including four from Ines Gnahore, who had four steals.
The Governors shot 26 of 65 from the field and could not be denied offensively, with reserves Kyra Perkins and Jade Rucker posting efficient numbers at 11 points apiece.
From the perimeter, Mya Williams took over, drilling four consecutive 3-pointers to put the game out of reach for the Hatters.
The Stetson Hatters looked visibly shaken on both sides of the ball, only shooting 32% from the field and a devastating 23% from the 3-point line. Cameron Thomas, one of the go-to 3-point shooters for the Hatters, was completely shut down, shooting 3 of 9 from the arc. The Hatters did find some success outrebounding Austin Peay 39-36. This loss marks Stetson’s exit from the tournament.
The Austin Peay women’s basketball team will look to continue this historic season, as the Govs are set to face the Jacksonville Dolphins in the ASUN Championship final at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena on March 9 at 4 p.m.
