The Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team remained undefeated on the road with an 86–81 win over Stetson on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Insight Arena, improving to 13–5 overall and 5–3 in Atlantic Sun Conference play.
The win marked Austin Peay’s 10th straight road victory, tying the program record for consecutive road wins set during the 2002–03 season.
Anovia Sheals led the Governors with 23 points, her third 20-point performance of the season. Kyra Perkins added 16 points, Jim’Miyah Branton scored 13 and JaNiah Newell finished with 10 points. Branton also recorded four assists, while Lameria Thomas and Ines Gnahore each grabbed six rebounds.
Austin Peay built an early lead and controlled much of the game, pushing its advantage to 20 points in the second quarter and extending it to 23 points in the third. Stetson rallied in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 80 with just over a minute remaining, but Branton’s jumper gave the Govs the lead before Newell and Perkins sealed the win at the free-throw line.
The Governors shot 54.9% from the field and a season-high 52.9% from three-point range. Austin Peay also outscored Stetson 51–18 off the bench and 19–8 on second-chance points.
Austin Peay will return to action Thursday, Jan. 29, when it hosts North Florida on Military Appreciation Night at 6 p.m. at F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville.
