The Lady Govs Softball faced the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in an OVC doubleheader this past Saturday, March 23. Looking for their first win in OVC play, the Lady Govs started the game one in a stalemate for the first three innings, but the Gamecocks opened it up in the fourth inning with a two-run homer from Gamecocks’ left fielder Sara Borders. The homer opened the floodgates as the Gamecocks scored four more runs in the fifth and the sixth innings and handed the Lady Govs their fourth loss in OVC play with a final score of 6-0.
In the second game, the Lady Govs were able to leave the memory of the first loss behind. The game was scoreless through the first four innings before center fielder Jessica Ryan gave the Lady Govs the lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run single. But the Gamecocks tied it up in the bottom of the sixth. The game went into extra innings where Lady Govs’ third baseman Kayla Davidson hit a two-run single in the eighth. The 4-2 win gave APSU their first win in OVC competition.
The doubleheader scheduled for Sunday March 24 against OVC rival Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles was postponed due to rain; the games will be rescheduled at a later date. The Lady Govs are currently 1-4 in OVC play and 9-11 overall.
