Much like the unexpected World Series win for the Washington Nationals, the first weekend of November is an impactful one for the Governors. Our football team faced the first overtime win since 2007 and others fell out of their OVC spot.
In the victory area, Govs Football took home an away win on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Richmond, Kentucky. For the first time since 2007, the Govs pushed the Colonels down in overtime with a final score of 28-21.

Through this overtime win, the Govs came out of a decade of not winning an overtime game. The team now, along with UT Martin’s win over Jacksonville State, is facing the possibility by homecoming to fight for first place in the OVC.
On the negative side of the overtime scale for APSU Athletics, women’s soccer faced a position changing loss against Belmont. The Lady Govs lost against Belmont in overtime, 1-0.
This loss resulted in the loss of the team’s OVC chances, only in the first round of the OVC soccer championships. Senior keeper, Mary Parker Powell, attempted to keep the Govs in the game with multiple attempted shots, however, Belmont found the back of the net in overtime.
“Obviously we are gutted about being knocked out of the tournament. We felt we deserved another game,” Coach Kolarova told letsgopeay.com. “The team worked so hard to limit Belmont’s opportunities and create plenty of our own, but we just couldn’t put it away. We’ve struggled to find goals this year and it ends up hurting us in these tight OVC games.”

The level of intensity and work has been top class all season from our team, we just need to continue to working on finishing and being smarter with our passing in possession.
Coach Naomi Kolarova told letsgopeay.com
Women’s volleyball also took home a win over the weekend, with a five-set (25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-9) win against SIUE for an OVC game. Senior Jenna Panning scored a career-high of 21 kills on this senior night game at the Dunn Center, playing a large role in the win for the team.

In a more team member based look, the Govs also had quarterback, Javaughn Craig earn a historic status. On Oct. 29, APSU Athletics posted that Craig was named the National Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards, a first for an offensive player to win this honor in APSU history.
Ultimately this first weekend of November previewed potential futures for OVC runnings and the plans for future seasons. APSU, much like the Washington Nationals, have a few historic events to add to hopeful career futures.
