Last week on Sept. 24, Sony unveiled new and upcoming games during their recent State of Play. During this event, we were showcased new titles no one has heard of before, updates on upcoming games, release dates and a few other bonuses as well. This State of Play was one that every fan of Playstation has been looking forward to.
To start off, Sony showcased a new game, which is still rattled in mystery. This title is called “Humanity.” Not much is known about this title yet aside from what was shown in the demo at the very beginning. The game may look strange yet it might heighten the curiosity of a lot of people. Aside from the large numbers of small individuals attacking each other, forming into giant worm-like beings and climbing over walls like swarms of zombies, this game might have a unique place in the Playstation family. “Humanity” is scheduled to be released sometime in 2020 and will be developed by Enhance & THA LTD.
Up next, “Call of Duty” fans will be happy to know that company Infinity Ward gave Playstation an exclusive new look at the new “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” game during the State of Play. “Modern Warfare” is one of the most anticipated games of the year and something Call of Duty fans will look forward to. The game appears to be a remake of the 2007 title of the same name, which to this day is still one of the best, if not the best, “Call of Duty” game in the series, which was acclaimed for its story, multiplayer and gameplay. Almost twelve years later, the game still holds up to that title. So it would be interesting to see how this new “Modern Warfare” will compete with the original. It is scheduled to release next month, Oct. 25, 2019.
Owners of the Playstation VR will be happy to know that Rockstar Games “LA Noire: The VR Case Files,” is available now on the Playstation Store. Players will follow the same story as the original game but completely immersed in VR. In addition to LA Noire, more VR titles such as Gorn a VR arena survival game, “Espire 1: VR Operative” a first-person shooter and more will be coming to PS4 in the following months. It’s a great time as any to own a Playstation VR.
Old school Playstation fans, get your nostalgia caps on because next month the remake of the Playstation One classic title “Medievil” will be released for Playstation 4. “Medievil,” an action-adventure game released for the Playstation One on Oct. 1, 1998, was known for its challenging difficulty, gothic aesthetic and addicting gameplay. Last year on Halloween, it was announced that Sony will be remaking the classic game for the modern-day, with the release date for it being Oct. 25, 2019.
For anyone itching for some action and can’t wait to play, a free playable demo is available now on the Playstation Store, where players can unlock Sir Daniel’s helmet for the full game after beating the demo. The demo is available until Oct. 6, so be sure to play it when you get the chance. First “Crash Bandicoot,” then “Spyro the Dragon” and now “Medievil.” What classic Playstation series will be remade next at this point?
Hideo Kojima is best known for his Konami video game series “Metal Gear, Zone of Enders” and the canceled “Silent Hills.” After Mr. Kojima was no longer a part of Konami back in 2015, which sadly resulted in the cancellation of the heavily anticipated “Silent Hills” featuring “Walking Dead” actor Norman Reedus and critically acclaimed director and actor Guillermo del Toro, Kojima went on to create his own company and began production on his most ambitious title yet, “Death Stranding.” First revealed back in 2016, “Death Stranding” has been shrouded in mystery by fans ever since it has been revealed. Over the past three years, we have had nothing but gameplay footage, cinematic trailers and vague ideas on what the story is about. Norman Reedus and Del Toro also return to work with Mr. Kojima, with Norman Reedus’s character being the protagonist and Troy Baker being the antagonist. The game is completely made through motion capture, three-dimensional scannings and vocals. The game will be released on Nov. 8 of this year.
To conclude the State of Play, Sony saved the best reveal for last with footage from Naughty Dog’s, “The Last of Us Part II,” along with a release date. “The Last of Us” was released as one of the last games on the Playstation 3 back in 2013. The game received many rewards and was praised for its story, gameplay and memorable characters. The game was even re-released one year later remastered for Playstation 4.
The story of “The Last of Us” revolves around an outbreak that was caused by a fungal infection that turned humans into insane, zombie-like creatures. The first game centers around protagonists Joel and Ellie, who adventure together to find a group called “The Fireflies” who believe they can find a cure for the infection. “The Last of Us Part II” takes place five years after the events of the first game, with the protagonists returning as playable characters. However, the story looks like it will focus more on Ellie rather than Joel, who was the main playable protagonist. This is a game many fans have been looking forward to for years and will be happy to know that it will be released Feb. 21, 2020. And to anyone who hasn’t played the first game yet and is looking forward to the second game releasing next year, “The Last of Us Remastered” will be available in October free for Playstation Plus subscribers, so you will have plenty of time to experience the story before the sequel comes out.
Sony has delivered an outstanding State of Play for Playstation fans.
Not only will we be getting new titles near the end of this year and the coming year, but we will also be getting a remake of a classic title and some more VR titles.
It is exciting to see what will be released in the future.
