On Sept. 4, 2019, Nintendo has once again wowed the gaming community with their announcements for new upcoming games and upcoming content for games, along with a couple of surprises.
Nintendo has always been known for delivering content for gamers of all ages along with a variety of their own original series. And with the games that they have announced on Wednesday, it’s not surprising to say that a lot of people were rather impressed with what they have delivered.
To start off this excitement, Nintendo announced and confirmed that video game company Blizzard’s popular multiplayer shooter “Overwatch” will arrive on the Nintendo Switch next month. Not only will the game come with all of the characters that have been previously released, but it will also get the same support with the other platforms with free characters being released periodically. In addition to this, there will also be added features in the Switch port such as having motion controls to enhance the movement of some abilities. “Overwatch” is still to this day one of the best first-person shooters and a staple in the esports community, so it is nice to see the Nintendo Switch getting some love with the game.
In the first batch of games showcased in the direct, we have gotten some more details on “Luigi’s Mansion 3,” the long-awaited sequel to the GameCube and Nintendo 3DS games. We have been shown that each hotel suite has its own distinct themes with their own unique level designs. In addition, there will be a new party mode called “Scream Park” which is a battle mini-game where the one who catches the most ghosts wins.
In news related to “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” the next downloadable fighter for the game Banjo and Kazooie from the ever-loving classic made by former Nintendo owned company Rare. Banjo-Kazooie is available to download and play now if the fighter pack has been purchased.
In addition to Banjo-Kazooie, Terry Bogard from SNK’s beat-em-up, Fatal Fury has been announced as the next fighter and is currently in development, with the character being the four of the five characters in the fighter pack, meaning that once this fifth character is announced, no more Smash Ultimate downloadable content right? Wrong, because Nintendo confirmed that more characters will be in development for the game, with the characters being a complete mystery at the moment.

Earlier this year, the remake of the classic Game Boy game “Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening” was announced for the Nintendo Switch. Some new details for the game such as the “Chamber Dungeon” where players can create their own dungeons with their own challenges and traps. These dungeons can even be stored onto Legend of Zelda themed Amiibo and shared to other players Switch. The game is set to release on Sept. 20, 2019.
In continuation with first-person shooters, classic Nintendo 64 title “DOOM 64” will be released on the Switch later this year on November 22. This game is a must-have for retro first-person shooters and fans of the classic “DOOM” franchise.
Pokemon fans will also enjoy some details announced for the new upcoming game “Pokemon: Sword “and “Pokemon: Shield.” One of these details involves customizing one’s character with a variety of different options. Next, there is the Pokemon Camp, where the player character can camp at Pokemon Camp and the player can play with and bond with the Pokemon. And finally, “curry on rice” which is a new feature where depending on what ingredients are used in the curry can have different ability effects on Pokemon. These details, along with more Pokemon being announced makes “Sword and Shield” become more exciting for Pokemon fans.
Star Wars is finally getting some love on the Nintendo Switch with the soon to be released “Star Wars: Jedi Knight II, Jedi Outcast” and “Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.” Originally released in 2002 as Jedi Outcast and 2003 Jedi Academy for the original Xbox and PC, players take the roles of unique characters in spin-off stories that pertain to the original trilogy. Fans of Star Wars can now relive these classics via the Nintendo Switch on Sept. 24, 2019.
Finally, for the last announcement for the Direct lineup, “Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.” Originally released for the Nintendo Wii back in 2012, the Definitive Edition is a complete remake of the game made exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. Players play as adventurer Shulk in this Action RPG known for its addictive and long hours of gameplay and tremendous story in which is a must-play for JRPG fans. Talk about saving the best for last Nintendo. The game is set to release sometime next year, 2020.
