Over the last weekend of May, the Govs found themselves back in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament as a No. 3 seed.
In the first game on Wednesday, May 25, the Govs faced No. 6 seed Belmont University where they pulled out a 12-7 win. Due to mother nature, the Govs didn’t finish their game until 1:47 a.m. Thursday morning. Junior Pitcher Alex Robles finished with five hits, two earned runs, nine strikeouts, one walk and three hit batters.
Robles earned his 10th win of the season, the first in nine seasons. The last pitcher to do so was Shawn Kelly who recently signed a $15 million contract.
In game two, the Govs fell short to No. 2 seed Jacksonville State 12-10.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Govs were ahead by two runs, but JSU tacked on nine runs in the next three to take the lead. The Govs were able to score five runs in the top of the ninth, but still fell short. Zach Neff was the losing pitcher.
While facing elimination, the Govs turned back around to face Belmont again, and send them back to Nashville with a 7-4 win in 13 innings. Jared Carkuff, the winning pitcher pitcher 6.2 innings from the bullpen. Carkuff also finished the tournament as All-OVC Tournament team, along with junior Garrett Copeland.
Copeland finished the tournament with 7 RBIs, six in the first two games.
The final game for the Govs was against Southeast Missouri for a chance to play in the championship. The Govs fell to the No. 1 seed 10-4. The losing pitcher was Robles.
