Contract crews will close a short section of Interstate 24 and State Route 237 (Rossview Road) in Clarksville to prepare for bridge removal, according to Tennessee Department of Transportation.
During the closures, traffic will use the on and off ramps at SR 237.
I-24 westbound and the SR 237 bridge over 1-24 will be closed Friday, April 17, from 8 p.m. through Monday, April 20, at 5 a.m.
I-24 eastbound and SR 237 bridge over I-24 will be closed Friday, May 15, at 8 p.m. through Monday, May 18, at 5 a.m.
These operations will likely create lengthy delays for traffic on I-24. All traffic will be detoured off the interstate at Exit 8 and immediately back onto the interstate using the exit and entrance ramps.
The bridge over the interstate will be closed to allow interstate traffic to maintain flow across the ramps. Although the ramps will be accessible, motorists are advised to plan ahead and utilize alternate routes if possible, TDOT said in an email sent by TheGovSays.
The lane closures are necessary to access, remove and contain asbestos from under the bridge. Later this year, the old bridge will be removed and a new bridge will be built. The work is part of a $12.9 million project that will modify the interchange and widen SR 237 in Montgomery County, TDOT said.
