The APSU Diversity Committee and Feed My Starving Children will be hosting an event in honor of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Friday, Jan. 30, at the Foy Fitness Center. More than 500 students will gather together to help alleviate hunger of those who have been affected by the Ebola virus outbreak in third-world countries, according to a press release from Public Relations and Marketing.
Feed My Starving Children is a nonprofit Christian organization dedicated to feeding malnourished adults and children with hand-packaged meals.
For APSU’s Diversity Committee, this event will be a first of its kind.
“We’ve always [celebrated MLK Day], but we’ve never really had a service project for the day,” said Director of Human Resources Fonda Fields. “For this year, we wanted to try something our entire campus community could get involved with.”
The event will take place in the Foy from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Students can volunteer in three shifts throughout the day: 10 a.m. to noon, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30p.m and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Volunteers will also be needed on Thursday, Jan. 29, to set up and on Friday, Jan. 30 to clean up after the event.
