This holiday season, Austin Peay State University is encouraging students, faculty and staff to donate to its new “Jingle Bowls” cereal drive.
This initiative is a collaboration between APSU’s offices of Professional and Workplace Development, Research and Sponsored Programs and TRiO Student Support Services. Unlike traditional food drives, Jingle Bowls is collecting boxes of hot and cold cereals rather than canned goods.
These collections will benefit the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Food Pantry and APSU’s own S.O.S. Food Pantry in order to help fight food insecurity heightened by the holiday season and the effects of the recent federal government shutdown.
Donations will be accepted across campus through Dec. 15, with drop-off boxes placed in the McReynolds Building lobby, the TRiO Student Support Services Office in Ellington and Browning 136. All three drop-off locations will benefit both programs. Donations can be made Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mt. Zion’s food pantry distributes weekly food boxes of both fresh and shelf-stable items to families across southern Montgomery County. The S.O.S. pantry works to support APSU students by providing non-perishables and hosting a seed library to encourage sustainable food growth.
In addition to Jingle Bowls, APSU’s Professional and Workforce Development Center provides career-focused non-credit courses and certifications to help individuals in the community seeking career changes.
