A vibrant group of students from around the globe finds themselves at Austin Peay State University for the Fall 2025 semester. As the new academic year begins, these students are here to pursue their studies, immerse themselves in American culture and create lasting memories.
During the week, these students participated in an engaging orientation through the International Student Services. It offered a comprehensive introduction to their new life at APSU, from navigating campus resources to understanding cultural norms.
“It’s very different from Honduras, but the community and people have been friendly. Very welcoming, too.“ said Seily Flores, a student from Zamorano, Honduras, enrolled in the social work program at APSU.
In addition to practical advice, the orientation emphasized the importance of building community and getting involved on campus. Also present at the event was a panel of tenured international students of APSU, who eagerly answered questions concerning adjusting to the new life, budgeting, getting around Clarksville and spending the summer away from home.
As the orientation concluded, the new students mingled and got to know each other. For many of them, this event marked the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and transformative experience at APSU.
“I expect to learn a lot more about social work. I’m really into it in Honduras. I like the career, but want to learn how they do it here. I want to bring this knowledge back to Honduras and show others how they do it here. I want to use it in my community, home country and even here,” said Flores.
Though their journey at APSU is just beginning, one thing is clear: they are now part of a diverse and welcoming community that will support them at every step.
