CLARKSVILLE, TN. The LatinX Community Resource Center (LCRC) hosted its fourth Annual Art Exhibit and Open Mic Night Wednesday, September 20 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This event was held in room 115 of the Morgan University Center, which also serves as the LCRC’s home. It was just one part of a larger celebration for Latinx Heritage Month.
The exhibit was open to everyone on campus and featured original artwork from APSU students. These works were made across a variety of mediums and focused on a number of subjects.
Attendees had the opportunity to present original works on the open mic. Some presented poetry works and another performed stand-up comedy for the crowd.
Guests were free to come and go throughout the event. Free food and drinks were provided, with many of the available food items tying back to Latinx cultures. As they ate, attendees were able to sit down with their peers and socialize in small groups.
Some attendees were members of the Latinx community themselves while others were not. The event attracted both frequent visitors of the LCRC as well as newcomers alike. Some came for the art, some for the open mic, some to socialize and some to explore an interest in Latinx culture.
This event was just one of several held by the Latino Community Resource Center to commemorate Latinx Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Upcoming events include Piñata making Sept. 26 and a Latino book-themed craft event Oct. 10.
