On Thursday, Sept. 15, at approximately 1:30 am, the Clarksville Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery in the Lincoln Homes area.
According to a safety bulletin sent to APSU students at approximately 8:30 am, the victim “alleged that he was driving his vehicle on University Avenue near College Street when he was approached by a person seeking a ride. When the suspect got in the vehicle, he produced a gun and had the victim drive him to Lincoln Homes, where he allegedly robbed him of money and personal items.”
CPD has since identified and arrested a suspect. They have yet to release the identities of either the victim or the suspect at the time of publication.
Chief of Police Michael Kasitz, in his email to APSU students, reminded students of several security measures they should take to improve campus safety:
- Immediately report suspicious persons loitering around university facilities.
- If you become the victim of a crime, do not try to physically detain or apprehend the suspect. Report the incident immediately to the APSU Police Department at 911 or (931) 221-7786.
- Always walk/jog/bike in groups in well-lit and well traveled areas. If you do not wish to walk alone, you can request an escort from the APSU Police Department.
- Scan the area before you exit or approach your vehicle/building and when you proceed between sites.
- Have your key/access card ready in hand to quickly access the door of your vehicle/building.
- If strangers approach, maintain a distance and be observant. If they are in a vehicle, get the license plate number, if possible.
- Lock doors and windows of your room/building. Do not prop open doors or let strangers in.
