For the most part, people love to be treated like royalty, especially on Valentine’s Day. So if you and your significant other are planning to spend the night locked indoors, Netflix has all the royalty and romance movies Cupid can send your way.
Start off the night right with the Prince and Me, starring Julia Styles and Luke Mably. This rom-com is sure to get the romantic ball rolling. After a wealthy and spoiled prince, Eddie, gets shipped off to an American college, he meets Paige Morgan, the brainy science girl from the country. Just like any other rom-com there are laughs and tears, and guaranteed fun. If you’re looking for something light, this is the movie to pick.
If you want to go a little deeper and bit more romantic, Shakespeare In Love, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes, follows the life of a young Shakespeare who has ran out of ideas for a play. After meeting noblewoman Viola, the two embark on a journey of hidden romance; ironically, the trip takes place as he writes Romeo and Juliet. This movie is a bit steamier than the others, so if you’re looking for a more serious film this one is sure to please.
Which brings us to our third movie, Anna And The King. Though this movie isn’t as romantic as the other two, it is a very good watch. Nominated for two Oscars, this movie stars Jodie Foster and Yun-Fat Chow in an adaptation of the classic semi-fictionalized biographical novel Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon. Unlike the other two, this movie is a very serious romantic piece that shows the true meaning of love and some of the metaphorical consequences that arise on it journey. I would recommend this movie for a very serious and romantic night with candles and the person you love.
Finally, this one is for all of those who may not have a significant other to share Valentine’s Day with. Honeymoon. Starring Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway, this movie will take anyone who is down on love and scare the care right out of them. After the bride starts to act a bit stranger than usual, her groom gets a little paranoid when a series of events unravel. So if you’re alone and not feeling the love, be sure to check out this horror film with your BFF and a box of your favorite pizza.
