Alpha Delta Pi won first place for their performance during APSU’s fight song competition, winning a total of $750 for the Ronald McDonald charity foundation.
The event brought out many APSU students who crammed into the Foy gymnasium to cheer on their friends and peers participating in the event
The fight song competition took place on Monday, Oct. 19, as a small version of a pep rally to get the students hyped up for the rest of APSU’s homecoming events. A majority of the performers worked very hard, altering the words of famous songs to encourage school spirit and a hopeful victory for the APSU homecoming football game.
Zach Moore performed a solo, warming the crowd up with a throwback of “I want it that way” by The Backstreet Boys. His song included many hand motions and dances that the cult boy band probably would’ve used in their own music videos.
The ladies of Chi Omega made many signs for their performance to emphasize words within their songs. They pre-recorded many of Justin Timberlake’s songs popularly known by many, so the crowd could join in. Their signs came through when it was later announced at the bonfire that they won third place.
Under the influence of school spirit and the homecoming theme, red tie affair, Pi Kappa Alpha dressed in white shirts and red ties as they were introduced as the “nicest dressed” out of all the performers. They lip synced to the words of their fight song, which pulled them through the competition landing them in second place with $250 for their philanthropy, Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
Even though the women of Alpha Sigma Alpha forgot their music a member from Alpha Delta Pi came to the rescue to help out the girls by lending them her computer. The girls of Alpha Sigma Alpha dressed in red uniforms with suspenders, showing off their Peay Pride as they performed after their song was recovered.
Win or lose the competitors of the fight song competition showed up with great performances. It was apparent that school spirit was definitely in the air and this year’s homecoming week started off right.
