CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Clarksville say a 1-year-old girl’s stepfather has been arrested in connection with her death.
According to The Leaf-Chronicle (http://leafne.ws/1t1znIs ), police spokesman Sgt. Charles Gill said police responded to a medical call on Thursday, May 15 and found 21-year-old Kyle A. Batiz performing CPR on his stepdaughter Winter Denny.
According to an arrest warrant, Batiz told police he was alone watching the girl that evening and had gotten angry. The warrant says he struck the girl forcefully in the abdomen twice and performed “a modified Heimlich-type thrusting maneuver” on her.
The girl died at a hospital. The warrant said Batiz told police his actions may have resulted in her death.
There were no immediate details about the charges Batiz is facing. The Department of Children Services and police are investigating.
