On Thursday, Sept. 5th from 5-8 p.m., the Downtown Clarksville Association (DAC) hosted its monthly downtown Artwalk, which takes place the first Thursday of each month. The Artwalk is a self-guided exploration of the downtown area and all it has to offer, as well as a showcase of local artists in the heart of Clarksville.
Multiple Clarksville artists gather to display their work, and many local businesses downtown open their doors outside of normal business hours to encourage people engaged in Artwalk to shop and support local. The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center also offer free admission as the Artwalk is taking place.
“I do Artwalk because I love art… it can bring people together, they can also see my work and how I make my jewelry,” says Selmy Pacheco.
Selmy, who runs the business Mind’s Eye Jewelry by Selmy, was one of the vendors of September’s Artwalk. She has lived in Clarksville for about 16 years now and sells handmade jewelry through her business.
Artwalk also includes the Art + Design Department at Austin Peay State University. The New Gallery, which showcases visiting artists, as well as the Living Gallery, which showcases APSU students, are open to the public during Artwalk.
The Artwalk brings together artists of all mediums, from painting to jewelry, from crochet to music. It connects people through their appreciation and curiosity of all things artistic, as well as giving an opportunity to support local artists and businesses.
