On Tuesday night, the basketball courts in the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center were transformed into a stage for Austin Peay State University’s talent show, Gov’s Got Talent.
The show featured fourteen acts that showcased a diverse range of talents. With dancing, singing and poetry, the show allowed a diverse cast of students to compete for recognition and a cash prize. The Govs Programming Council hosted the show from 6 to 8 p.m.
Three judges made up the panel deciding the best acts. These judges were Charles Gonzalez, Zac Moore, and Yanaraliz Barnes. They decided the best four performances, but the vote for the order of the top three was left to the audience.
In the end, the dancing duo Davon and Robin took the first-place prize of $500. Performer ZAZA won the second-place prize of $250 for her motivational poem. The FUSE Dance Team took the third-place prize of $100. Finally, an honorable mention went to solo dancer K. Sherell for her fourth-place win.
This event was an opportunity for students from a variety of backgrounds to flaunt their talents to a large audience of peers. Even performances of the same general skill, such as dancing, varied in many aspects like the type of dance, the music, the number of performers, and more. In addition, it was a showcase of the diverse students and skills that make up the APSU student body.
