CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University’s Men’s Basketball will be playing in the 2023 SoCal Challenge to head the program’s 2023-24 nonconference schedule from November 15-22. It will be held at The Pavillion at JSerra in San Juan Capistrano, California, with a kickoff of four regional games.
Even though it is his first year at APSU, Men’s Basketball Coach Corey Gibson has ambitious goals for the upcoming season. To start out strong, he announced the recent decision to participate in the SoCal Challenge.
In a press release following the announcement, Gibson said that “This is a great opportunity for us to represent Austin Peay State University and the Atlantic Sun Conference against such a competitive field of coaches and teams.”
This return to the Golden State will be the first since 2011, when the Governors played against fellow 2023 SoCal challenger, the University of California.
While APSU stands as the lone ASUN entry in SoCal Challenge, other teams there will include Bradley, California, UTEP and Tulane in the competition’s Surf Division; and Cal State Bakersfield, Sacramento State and Tarleton State in the Sand Division.
APSU will be a part of the Sand Division to round out two four-team divisions within the SoCal Challenge.
Both divisions will have their own winners, with past winners including High Point, UNLV, Utah Valley, and Fresno State in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
