While watching a new TV series, some of the characters were talking about 90’s movies and that got me feeling pretty nostalgic. If you’re like me and think the 80’s and 90’s produced the best movies of all time, kick back, relax and walk down memory lane with me.
Starting our journey off right, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) produced by The Dr. Frankenstein of teenage angst films, John Hughes, is a cult classic loved by many. Starring Matthew Broderick as the school-skipping class clown, loved by all Ferris Bueller takes viewers on an adventure of all things we dreamed would happen during a ditch day in high school. From musical numbers to joy rides, Ferris Bueller’s Day off doesn’t disappoint. If you have yet to watch this film, please take it from me: it’s a movie you’ll watch over and over again in hopes that your life can be just as cool as Ferris, Sloan and Cameron’s.
Taking a slight left hand turn down memory lane lands us on our next film Can’t Buy Me Love (1987). If you binged watched Grey’s Anatomy in a week like many other before you, then you’ll love seeing Dr. McDreamy a.k.a. Patrick Dempsey in his role as tech geek turned Mr. Popularity. After a bet with the high school Queen B Cindy played by Amanda Peterson, Dempsey’s character is given a taste of what it really feels like at the top of the high school food chain. If you’re into love, drama and a sweaty man pulling you onto his lawnmower to ride off into the sunset (which is also the iconic scene of the movie) Can’t Buy Me Love is sure to please.
Right down the road in Beverly Hills lives Cher Horowitz who is the main character in every teenage girls secret fantasy Clueless (1995). Played by Alicia Silverstone, the movie follows Cher’s life through the “rough and tumble” adventure of being a wealthy teenager in High School. Although her character seems to have an extremely vapid outer layer, her heart is in the right place and she truly wants to make others happy. Chick-flick and all, this movie is full of laughs and great for everyone.
Finally, on our last stop down #FBF memory lane, I present you with Drive Me Crazy (1999). Staring everyone’s favorite teenage witch Melissa Joan Hearts, or Nicole Maris in the film, is thrown into a whirlwind when she has to find a substitute for the biggest dance her high school has seen. She enlists the help of childhood friend, neighbor and outcast Chase Hammond played by Adrian Grenier. In order to save face with her uptight peers, Nicole must give Chase a complete makeover and make them believe he’s one of the gang. Named after Britney Spears’ song, this movie is corny in all the right ways.
