The new “Daredevil” hit Netflix this month, but was it worth the wait? This week I will review the new Marvel show, as well as three other superhero shows available to stream on Netflix.
The first show is “Heroes” from 2006. I remember seeing this show when it first came out, and I loved it. It’s a new spin on the superhero shows and movies. It uses the common formula of people finding their powers and realizing they are meant to use them to fight crime. This show, however, has multiple heroes joining together to stop a villain from destroying the world. It does a great job of adding twists to the storyline that will keep you intrigued until the finale. I watched season one again, and it is still great, but I recommend stopping after that. The show falls off drastically at the beginning of season two. Even if you’re not into these types of shows, season one has great twists that will keep anybody watching.
“Arrow” was a show I knew nothing about, but I sat down and watched the first season for this blog. The story follows a DC hero called Green Arrow who doesn’t have any real powers but uses technology and amazing archery skills to right crime. Think Batman meets Robin Hood. I really enjoyed season one, especially for a show from the CW. The action sequences were done well, and that is crucial for a hero show. The show starts with a bang and ends with a bigger bang with little momentum lost in between. I could recommend this show to most people, but I don’t think everyone will like it. It’s worth watching the first episode to find out, because it’s not something that you will hate, probably, but you might feel indifferent to it.
My next show is “Agents of Shield.” If you’re a fan of the Avengers and all the films that go with it, there is no way you will not enjoy this. I admit I enjoyed the movies, and I first thought this was an attempt to make some more money off the films without paying the big stars. I couldn’t have been more wrong; this show does a great job expanding the Avengers storyline. The part I was most surprised with was the amazing sense of humor that comes on the side.
Finally, here is my “Daredevil” review. When I first decided what I would blog about this week, I thought I would have a lot of negative things to say about some of these shows, but was really surprised I enjoyed all of them. “Daredevil” is no exception. I enjoyed every aspect of this show, and it is another great example of Netflix’s amazing original material. For those of you who don’t know, Daredevil is a superhero who is blind, but has extraordinary senses otherwise. He uses his amazing senses to fight crime in the dark alleys of New York City. His nemesis, Wilson Fisk, is a kingpin who craves power and control. This is by far the darkest a superhero show has gone in a long time. The show is well written and produced and puts all the other shows I mentioned to shame, even though I liked them. There are flaws with some of the character development, but other than that, I couldn’t find anything wrong with it.
That’s it for this week. I strongly recommend all of the shows listed here, with the exception of seasons two through four of “Heroes.” If you have watched all these, remember the original Power Rangers series is still streaming and proves that your childhood was way better than the younger generations’.
