The Lady Govs began their four game road trip this past weekend with two games in two days versus Southern Illinois University -Edwardsville on Friday and Eastern Illinois University on Saturday.
The Lady Govs came in this weekend on a four game win streak and on top the Ohio Valley Conference standings.
Their first matchup was on Friday, Oct. 10 against the SIU-E Cougars who were winless in the conference coming into the matchup with an 8-11 record overall.
The Lady Cougars outplayed the Lady Govs in the first set, getting 15 kills to 10 and winning the overall set 25-19. The Lady Govs won the second and third sets both 25-19 then dropped the next two to lose the match 3-2. Jada Stotts, Sammie Ebright and Ashley Slay led the Lady Govs in overall kills. (14, 11, and 11)
The loss to the Lady Cougars was the Lady Govs’ first loss in the OVC and brought their overall record to 10-11.
The Lady Govs were in action again on Saturday, Oct. 11 against The Eastern Illinois Panthers, who were coming off a pair of losses to Murray State University and Belmont University. The Lady Govs were looking to turn the momentum back in their favor after suffering their first conference loss at SIU-E.
The Lady Govs started out slow, dropping the first two sets (25-22, 25-17), but they picked back up winning the next two to tie and bring it down to the final set which Eastern Illinois won 15-13. Sammie Ebright and Jada Stotts led the Lady Govs in kills for the second straight game but the Lady Govs were dealt their second loss in the OVC and their second in a row.
The loss at EIU put the Lady Govs fifth in the conference standings with a 4-2 record and 10-12 record overall. The Lady Govs have two more games left on their road trip against Tennessee State University and Belmont this upcoming weekend. TAS
