The Lady Govs appeared at a track and field event in Columbus, Ohio, Friday, Feb. 15, in the Buckeye Tune-Up at French Field House. Led by coach Doug Molnar, they had their sights set high.
Senior Lauren Lyles ended the evening with two top-eight finishes. By performing a 5.59m long jump, she earned herself third place in the long jump competition at the conference. In the 60m competition, she earned seventh place with a 9.03 hurdles time.
In the triple jump, senior Cenitra Hudson marked a 11.53, which helped her receive fourth place.
In the 3000m run, junior Xiamar Richards ran a 10:19.30. Richards went from 15th to sixth in the OVC event.
In the 60m competition, sophomore Erika Adams recorded her best performance with a 7.70 mark. She placed sixth at the conference.
Senior Chantelle Grey, junior Taelor Slaugher, freshmen Breigh Jones and Kymmalett Ross raced in the 4×400 relay and won with a time of 3:51.79. With the track conversion the time was 3:48.76.
Next weekend, the Lady Govs go to Eastern Illinois to compete at the Lantz Fieldhouse in the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championship. They hope to bring the same type of performances and confidence from the Columbus, Ohio competition.
